Mind and Body

Your mind is a powerful thing to waste. Remember those commercials?  Except they said "terrible thing." Which is true, but I think powerful is so much more, well, powerful. We've all read those stories of the people who willed things to happen, or the people who visualized their dreams and watched then materialize. That's not all hokie pokie stuff, you know. It's real. Not only have I seen it work on others lives, I see it in my own. My friends know this, as they ask, "How does life seem to just work out for you?" Or "How did you pull that off?  I've heard you saying that that's what you wanted, and now you have it!"  I'll be the first to admit it's weird. My husband is even to the point now where he doesn't ask questions; he just rides the wave. But here's my point to all of this: your mind is the driving factor here, not your flesh. Whatever you tell your mind to do, your body will follow. For instance, when you say, "I'm tired, I'm tired, I'm tired."  Guess what?  You'll feel even more tired.  If you tell your body it's workout time, guess what?  It's workout time!  If you're trying to get on a workout program, this is key for you. You have to train your body and tell your mind what needs to happen.  With the right consistency, your body will follow suit. There are a couple of things you can do to help it along, though.
  1. Get some sleep. A well-oiled machine (that's your body, by the way) needs rest to recharge and heal. Don't deprive it of that privilege.  You need 6-8 hours/night. Period. Could you get by on less? Yes. Are you at optimum performance? No.
  2. Eat well. Garbage in, garbage out. I'm the first one to tell you I love food, especially bad food. Please don't be surprised if you see me with a cupcake or piece of fried chicken hanging out of my mouth. But it's not everyday. It's in moderation. Put things in your body that will make it want to perform for you.
  3. Tell your body what you want it to do. Over and over again. Say things like, "You are going to walk for 20 minutes today."  Or "You're going to bed early so you can wake up early and exercise for 20 minutes."  Consistency is key with positive affirmations.
  4. Want it. You need to attack this with avarice, so to speak, a burning desire to be the best you you can be. A banging body is a good place to start, IMHO.
Hope this helps. Talk soon.
